Ismaili Center in Dushanbe

The building complex, the 5th one built according to the project of the Aga Khan Foundation, is a grandiose architectural structure, not inferior in scale and beauty to the cultural centers built at different times in four capitals of the world – Great Britain, Canada, Portugal and the United Arab Emirates. It is planned to build two more such centers in Toronto (Canada) and Houston (USA).

The construction of the facility in Tajikistan began in 2006. For the first time, the design used in the Ismaili Somoni Mausoleum was used in the decoration of the complex. The entire territory of the Ismaili Center is 16 hectares, the building of the center is 3 hectares. The center consists of 4 majestic minarets, 3 of which are 21 m high, and one is 25 m, located along the perimeter of the complex. Pools and flower alleys are built under each of the minarets. Three million bricks brought from Samarkand were used to build the walls. The interior walls of the center are lined with blue tiled tiles with national ornaments, hand-made by skilled Uzbek artisans. Inside, the premises consist of four sectors – administrative, social, youth and educational with a library. The conference hall at the center will be open for various events – scientific conferences, seminars, international symposiums and other cultural events. All sectors of the center are connected by spacious halls with exits to the courtyard, one of which leads to the amphitheater, where theatrical performances and concerts will be held.
